Electrical Controls For Manually Operated 200 TPH Metso Crusher Plant: Ensuring Robustness & Reliability
While the term “manually operated” might suggest simplicity, the electrical control system underpinning a 200 Tonnes Per Hour (TPH) Metso crusher plant is far from rudimentary. This system forms the critical nervous system responsible for safe startup, controlled operation, vital protection against damage, and efficient shutdown of powerful machinery handling abrasive materials under demanding conditions. Designing and implementing this system requires careful consideration of power requirements, component robustness, operator interface clarity, and comprehensive protective functions – all tailored to Metso’s specific equipment characteristics.
The Core Mandate: Power Distribution & Motor Control
At its heart, the electrical control system manages the flow of electrical energy to drive motors powering key components:
1. Primary Crusher: Typically a Nordberg® C Series jaw crusher (e.g., C100, C120) or an NP Series impact crusher in this capacity range.
2. Vibrating Grizzly Feeder (VGF): Essential for regulating feed into the primary crusher and scalp out fines.
3. Conveyors: Multiple belt conveyors transporting material between stages (e.g., feeder discharge to primary crusher feed hopper; primary discharge to secondary/screen feed; screen oversize returns; final product stacking).
4. Vibrating Screens: Likely a Nordberg® ES or CVB Series screen deck classifying crushed material.

5. Secondary/Tertiary Crushers: Depending on circuit design (e.g., cone crushers like Nordberg® HP Series).
6. Auxiliaries: Dust suppression pumps/valves, lubrication unit pumps/motors (especially critical for crushers), lighting circuits.
Components of the Electrical Control System:
1. Main Power Distribution:

Incoming Supply: Typically Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear (e.g., 11kV or 6.6kV) feeding a step-down transformer.
Transformer: Steps down MV to Low Voltage (LV), usually 400V/415V or 480V AC three-phase + Neutral + Earth/Protective Conductor (TN-S/TT system). Sized significantly above the total connected load (~250-300 kVA range) to handle starting currents and future minor expansions.
Main LV Distribution Board/Panel: Houses the main incoming circuit breaker/fuse-sw
